Over 1,000 residents of Los Angeles found their way to Mayor Bass' Justice Fair 2025, a conduit of opportunities encompassing employment, education, and essential services aimed at fostering stability and disrupting persistent cycles of crime. The LA Expo Center set the stage for this transformative event, which saw the collaboration of more than 80 employers, service providers, and community organizations, according to a proclamation from the Mayor's office.
The fair, tailored to support those formerly incarcerated or affected by the criminal justice system, highlighted Mayor Bass' commitment to reintegration and prosperity, offering on-site job interviews and application workshops by LA Metro and partner agencies. A statement procured by the Mayor's office captures the essence of the endeavor: "Angelenos should not be locked out of second chances to turn their lives around,” said Mayor Bass. “Los Angeles will continue to promote the type of justice that breaks cycles of crime by providing individuals with access to jobs, education and opportunity."
Integral to the fair were the organizations acknowledged by Mayor Bass, which have been instrumental in executing anti-recidivism and gang intervention programs. The Mayor's Office of Community Safety, established by Mayor Bass, has been at the forefront of these efforts. It was reported by the Mayor's office that the Office served thousands of Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) participants in 2024, with a significant decrease in gang-related homicides by 45% in GRYD zones compared to the previous year, and a 56% decrease compared to 2022. Additionally, a notable 48% drop in the number of victims shot in gang-related conflicts was also observed.
While serving 6,000 meals to attendees, the Office of Community Safety's Fall Friday Nights aimed to create safe community spaces and prevent violence before it happens. During the summer, activities extended across 42 local parks and recreation centers, where 110,000 residents engaged in community-centric programming as part of the Summer Night Lights initiative. This data, coupled with stories of personal triumph, cement the Justice Fair's role in advancing Los Angeles towards a more secure and inclusive future.
