Following a late-night crash on December 30, a 62-year-old man was injured when his car collided with a 7-Eleven in Twinsburg. The vehicle, managing to partially drive into the store, caused considerable structural damage. According to the WKYC, fire and emergency crews responded to the scene around 11:26 p.m. at the location of 8775 Darrow Road.
Upon the emergency response teams' arrival, the driver was found trapped in his vehicle, requiring firefighters to quickly extricate him from the wreckage. He was subsequently transported to Summa Health System in Akron for treatment, as reported by WKYC, although his current condition has not been disclosed. The impact of the crash left the front of the establishment with two destroyed windows and a damaged steel support pillar.
Officials confirmed that the fuel pumps, fortunately, were not compromised during the incident. However, they were shut down as a precautionary measure. Clean-up crews had to be brought in to address the oil and fuel spill using absorbent materials. A board-up company was later called to secure the storefront, as documented by News 5 Cleveland.
In the aftermath of the crash, the store owner expressed intentions to reopen later in the day. The official cause of the crash remains under investigation. Surveillance footage showing the precise moment of the collision, captured from the store's cameras, depicts the car driving straight through the front entrance, narrowly missing an employee inside. As per the footage and details provided by Cleveland19 News, the driver appeared "awake but slow to respond and pale in color" when emergency services reached him.
This incident has led to an interruption of normal operations at the Twinsburg 7-Eleven, and the repercussions are expected to be felt until the establishment fully recovers from the structural damages. Updates on the driver's condition and further developments regarding the investigation are anticipated as the community responds to this unexpected event.
