Mayor Bill Collins has confirmed that all offices in City Hall will be out of commission on both Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28 in observance of the holiday, with a note for residents to be aware of early closures happening the preceding Wednesday, specifically, the Municipal Court office and the Utility Billing office shutting down at 2:00 pm. according to the City of Marion website.
The holiday schedule requires some negotiation with the usual conveniences, the Sanitation and Streets Department is set to halt trash, recycling, yard waste, and leaf collection on Thursday, November 27, but efforts will be doubled the following day, as sanitation crews will tackle the demands of both Thursday's and Friday's rounds of refuse and recycling on Friday, November 28, thus all items must be ready for curbside pickup by the brisk hour of 7:00 a.m. that day in order to be collected, leaf collection service resumes on this day as well, which is a relief to those anxious about the accumulation during the festive pause.
No bus services will be cruising the streets on either day, as confirmed by Marion Area Transit, which will be shutting down operations on November 27 and 28, leaving residents to look for alternative transportation methods during this Thanksgiving break and won't resume until the dawn of the following week on Monday, December 1.
For the elder citizens of Marion, the Senior Center will also be locking up for the holiday, discontinuing regular services on both days, however, it's important to pay attention to the fact that perhaps as a small concession, transportation arrangements remain in place for dialysis appointments on Friday, offering a thread of consistency in health care commitments amidst the broader pause in services, the essential wings of the city, encompassing fire, police, and airport services will remain vigilant and operational throughout the holiday, ensuring security and essential mobility are maintained despite the Thanksgiving lull.
