The National Weather Service in Las Vegas forecasts continued mild conditions across Nevada today, with breezy winds and temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

“A disturbance will bring a low chance for precipitation to portions of Inyo and Esmeralda counties over the weekend,” the National Weather Service said. Snow levels are expected to stay near 9,000 feet.

Attention is turning to the Christmas holiday, as a potential pattern change could bring increased moisture to Southern California and the Desert Southwest. The National Weather Service cautions that significant uncertainty remains regarding the timing and strength of any systems.

Aviators can breathe a little easier, with VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions anticipated to reign for the week. "VFR conditions will prevail at all sites, with passing bands of high clouds with bases AOA 20kft AGL, gradually dissipating by late this afternoon," per the National Weather Service forecast. Harry Reid International Airport, alongside other airports in southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California, should anticipate typical wind patterns without any significant visibility concerns.

Several locations in the region, including Las Vegas, Bishop, and Needles, may approach historical highs. The National Weather Service notes that Las Vegas could reach 68°F, close to previous December records of 71°F in 1942 and 72°F in 1939.

The National Weather Service encourages weather spotters to “report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures,” which is important for safe travel during the holidays.
