The spirit of giving was in full force in Milwaukee as the city-county holiday drive wrapped up this Monday, marking yet another successful year in the annual tradition of aiding local families affected by house fires. As detailed in a press release from the Milwaukee County, more than 1,700 items were collected, spanning from essential toiletries to comforting toys for children.
Contributions came from all corners of the community, including a substantial partnership with the Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation, and with the local American Red Cross chapter receiving the much-needed goods County Executive David Crowley and Mayor Cavalier Johnson each extolled the collective effort, Crowley commented on the unity the drive fosters, saying, “It truly shows what we can achieve when we come together as a community” and Johnson added, "From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every person who took the time and contributed to this effort," expressing gratitude for the unwavering commitment demonstrated by the citizens of Milwaukee, as stated by the Milwaukee County.
This drive, which has been an end-of-year feature since 2007, underscores Milwaukee’s commitment to collective welfare and the resilience of its community spirit. Catherine Rabenstine of the Red Cross captured the tangible impact of the drive, as she mentioned, "Behind every donation is a story: a child who will clutch a stuffed animal for comfort and security, a parent who receives a toothbrush or a bar of soap and feels dignity and a sense of normalcy amid so much loss," as noted by the Milwaukee County.
