Two 18-year-olds from Monroe County are currently in custody after being arrested in connection with a string of automobile thefts. Tenaya Dayshanee Taylor of Monroe and James Lee Harris of Ypsilanti were taken into custody over the weekend, with both facing charges of receiving and concealing stolen property, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, a rapid capture by Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Austin Graham, linking information from a previously stolen Nissan Altima to the FLOCK Safety cameras, led to swift local law enforcement action. The troubled vehicle was seen on multiple FLOCK cameras, eventually being located at a Sunoco gas station, as The Detroit News details. Both youths, who were embroiled in this spate of vehicular thefts, had their bond set at $10,000 each.
The arrests were made without incident after the suspects emerged from the gas station store, following Deputy Brent Thomas's discovery of the vehicle at approximately 5:35 am. Inside the stolen vehicle, evidence was found that implicated Taylor and Harris in a series of thefts from vehicles in both the city of Monroe and Monroe Township. This information comes via a WTOL report.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is actively conducting an investigation into the matter, and they urge anyone with further information to get in touch. These incidents raise serious concerns about local youth and crime in the community, showcasing the effectiveness of surveillance technology in aiding law enforcement. Charges may continue to evolve as the investigations proceed. Meanwhile, Taylor and Harris remain in custody at the Monroe County Jail.
