Montgomery County Public Libraries will reduce Sunday service at several branches starting January 11, 2026, with only eight locations remaining open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. “Montgomery County Public Libraries remains committed to providing exceptional service to our residents,” quoted MCPL Director Darcell Graham, according to the Montgomery County.

The branches keeping Sunday hours include Brigadier General Charles E. McGee, Connie Morella, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Olney, Rockville Memorial, Wheaton, and White Oak, ensuring at least one library is open in each region. Montgomery County Public Libraries plans to expand programs for children, teens, and older adults while optimizing resources to better serve the community.

Montgomery County Public Libraries will no longer keep some libraries open on Sundays and is introducing an electric outreach van to provide services such as browsing books, managing accounts, and returning items. Graham said, “We appreciate the public’s continued support and welcome feedback as we move through this transition.” Residents can give feedback through a form on MCPL’s website or on the library’s Facebook and X pages.
