A updated maritime transit map introduces new routes for the NYC Ferry, effective Dec. 8. The redesigned routes are intended to connect boroughs more directly while improving overall service efficiency. According to an AMNY report, the changes are part of the NYC Ferry Optimization Plan, which adds new destinations and is expected to reduce travel times.

A central feature of the update is a new ferry route connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island for the first time. The St. George route will include stops at Bay Ridge and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, as well as Wall Street in Manhattan. Staten Island Council Member Kamillah Hanks told AMNY that the route will connect Staten Island to Brooklyn and Pier 11, potentially supporting commuter access and the local economy. EDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball stated that the revised routes are designed to provide faster commutes, improved connections, and expanded service across all five boroughs.

Ferry fares will remain the same, with a one-way ticket priced at $4.50. Discount programs are available, including a reduced fare of $1.45 for qualifying riders. SILive reports that other options for commuters include a 10-trip pass for $29 or an unlimited two-day ticket for $15. The EDC has indicated that the updated routes are expected to lower the system’s per-rider subsidy, which could reduce costs for both the city and ferry passengers.

The St. George route’s new schedule plans for ferries to run every 37 minutes during peak hours. The trip from Staten Island to Brooklyn is expected to take approximately 11 minutes. During off-peak hours, trips are scheduled at intervals of about 50 minutes. SILive states that tickets can be purchased in advance via the NYC Ferry app or at vending machines located at ferry stops.
