New York City residents wake up to a blanket of snow this morning, dealing with a chilly start to the day as snow accumulation reaches up to two inches across the boroughs. The National Weather Service's detailed forecast for Manhattan showed a snow likelihood mainly before 10 a.m., with cloudy conditions followed by gradual clearing. Temperatures are expected to drop to 26 degrees by late afternoon, accompanied by blustery northwest winds picking up speed throughout the day.
Similar conditions are reported in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island, where the wind chill could make it feel as cold as 5 degrees. According to forecasts for each borough, found respectively from the Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island offices of the National Weather Service, expect a mostly clear night with temperatures dipping even lower.
As New Yorkers gear up for the week, a slight chance of snow showers is predicted late Monday afternoon, but the skies are expected to clear as the night progresses. The Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service indicates no significant hazardous weather expected for the coming days, with the exception of a Gale Warning in effect from Sunday evening to Monday morning for coastal waters. With the tumultuous weather, residents are advised to bundle up and exercise caution while traversing slick roads and walkways.
Following today's snow event, the week ahead looks to be a seesaw of temperatures. By midweek, the mercury is forecasted to rise with Manhattan seeing highs near 43 degrees and Staten Island even warmer at a high near 50 on Thursday. However, according to the National Weather Service, the warmth brings precipitation, and rain is expected Thursday night with an 80% chance. It's a brief respite before temperatures drop again, and by next weekend, New Yorkers can expect more partly sunny skies with highs stabilizing in the low 40s.
