
A winter storm is expected to affect New York City starting this afternoon and continuing into Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely to begin after 5 p.m in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, with light accumulation this evening followed by heavier snowfall overnight. Total snow accumulation across the five boroughs is forecast to be between 4 and 8 inches. Wind chill values are expected to range from 15 to 25 degrees, with wind gusts reaching up to 22 mph.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for all of New York City from 4 p.m. this afternoon through 1 p.m. Saturday, with hazardous conditions likely to impact travel and outdoor activities. “Please listen to NOAA Weather Radio or go to weather.gov on the Internet for more information about the following hazards.”
After the storm, temperatures are expected to moderate slightly, with rain chances Sunday through Monday and highs nearing 50 degrees across the boroughs. Commuters should remain cautious, as gusty conditions with possible gale-force winds may develop from Monday into Tuesday night.
