What started as a gripe over gravy at a KFC on Craig Road in North Las Vegas turned into a stabbing on Dec. 27, leaving an employee injured and two men facing serious felony charges, according to police records. Officers arrested 32-year-old Gerald Carter and 48-year-old James Carter after witnesses reported seeing them leave the restaurant, and both suspects remained jailed as the investigation continued.
As reported by 8 News Now, investigators say the confrontation moved behind the counter after an argument about gravy, where it escalated into a physical fight. Officers later recovered a large knife from Gerald Carter’s pocket during the arrest. According to documents cited in that report, Gerald admitted to fighting with an employee but denied stabbing anyone. Police say they located the two men walking away from the restaurant before taking them into custody.
What witnesses and documents show
Witnesses told investigators that Gerald Carter became upset about the gravy and asked to speak with a manager, a conversation that quickly shifted from customer service issue to full-blown altercation. Police documents describe a scuffle behind the counter that ended with an employee being stabbed and treated for injuries. Afterward, both Gerald and James Carter were booked into the North Las Vegas jail.
Court orders and bail
Per 8 News Now, North Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Jonathan Cooper set bail at $100,000 for Gerald Carter and $10,000 for James Carter, ordering ankle monitors for either man if bond is posted. As of Tuesday, both defendants remained detained while their cases move through the court system.
Legal implications
Both men face attempted murder with a deadly weapon charges, accusations that carry felony penalties if prosecutors can prove them at trial. Authorities say the investigation is still active and prosecutors will determine whether to pursue additional charges. The suspects are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in court.
What to watch
Investigators continue to collect evidence and have asked anyone with video or information about the incident to contact authorities. KFC representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment, according to reporting on the case.
