Two women wound up in a San Antonio hospital with gunshot wounds early Saturday after a late-night gathering on the Northeast Side, according to police. The pair arrived just after 4 a.m. and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A 25-year-old woman was shot in the hand and a 26-year-old woman was hit in the lower leg.
Officers were called to the hospital after staff reported the gunshot victims, and investigators said the women told them they had heard gunfire while standing outside a house party. Police said there was conflicting information about where the shooting actually happened, and blood was later found in the parking lot of a nearby hookah lounge. Both women became uncooperative with the investigation, according to News 4 San Antonio.
Where witnesses placed the gunfire
A witness told investigators the group was in the parking lot of a hookah lounge near Binz-Engleman and Candlemeadow when shots rang out, a detail detectives are still trying to verify. That stretch of the Northeast Side has seen other late-night trouble recently. On Dec. 15, a parking-lot stickup was reported at a hookah lounge in the area, and KSAT documented a November shooting nearby.
Investigation ongoing
SAPD has not released suspect descriptions or announced any arrests as detectives try to sort through conflicting witness accounts. Investigators said they recovered blood at the suspected scene and that both victims were uncooperative when officers followed up, per News 4 San Antonio.
How to report tips
Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the San Antonio Police Department or Crime Stoppers so investigators can piece together what happened. The City of San Antonio lists the SAPD non-emergency number as 210-207-7273 and the Crime Stoppers tip line as 210-224-STOP (7867), and contact details are available on the city website: City of San Antonio.
Why this matters
Late-night confrontations outside hookah lounges and other after-hours spots have prompted scrutiny from city officials after a string of violence in the area. Local coverage and City Council debate over stricter BYOB and venue oversight have highlighted enforcement gaps and neighborhood safety concerns, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News. A closer look at proposed BYOB safety crackdowns has also appeared in neighborhood reporting, and MySanAntonio has documented related bar fight shootings and similar incidents.
