What started as a traffic stop over a suspected stolen license plate in northwest Houston turned into a full‑blown neighborhood search Monday, as deputies flooded the Lakewood Meadow area and urged residents to steer clear. Harris County Precinct 4 deputies tried to pull over a vehicle south of Grant Road near N. Eldridge Parkway, after learning it was believed to be using a stolen plate.

The car finally stopped in the 13300 block of Lakewood Meadow Drive, where deputies detained a female passenger and discovered she had an out‑of‑county warrant, officials said. The male driver, however, bolted on foot. Drone pilots and K‑9 teams were called in to sweep the neighborhood while residents were told to avoid the area and let officers work.

Constables Lock Down Streets After Driver Takes Off

According to a post on Facebook, Precinct 4 deputies quickly set up a perimeter south of Grant Road off N. Eldridge Parkway after flagging the suspected stolen plate. The post said the vehicle later came to a stop on Lakewood Meadow Drive, where deputies detained the female passenger and discovered her warrant. The male driver ran from the scene.

“A police perimeter has been established - please avoid the area and allow law enforcement to operate safely,” the post stated, noting that drone pilots and K‑9 teams were actively searching the neighborhood. Residents were also warned not to approach deputies while the operation was underway.

High-Tech Search, Live Updates in Real Time

The constable’s office said drone pilots and K‑9 units were part of the response and encouraged residents to track official information through its C4 NOW mobile app and other channels. As detailed on Precinct 4, the C4 NOW app gives users live feeds on crime, arrests, safety tips and traffic incidents in the area.

License Plate Thefts Already on Precinct’s Radar

The stop comes as local law enforcement has been sounding the alarm over rising license plate thefts following the state’s decision to eliminate temporary paper tags. Precinct officials have said the trend can feed into vehicle theft and fraud schemes. ABC13 reported earlier this year that the Precinct 4 office urged drivers to install anti‑theft screws, park in well‑lit areas and check their plates regularly.

What Deputies Are Not Saying Yet

As of publication, deputies had not released the driver’s identity or said whether any criminal charges will be filed. Officials indicated that any updates will be posted to their official channels and through the C4 NOW app for residents following the case via the Precinct 4 website.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact law enforcement through official channels. Residents are urged to stay clear of the area until the search is officially called off, with precinct officials saying more details will be shared when available.
