A 64-year-old man was critically injured Saturday evening when a sedan struck him as he used a crosswalk at the busy intersection of Wurzbach Road and Colonnade Boulevard on San Antonio’s Northwest Side. The driver sped off before officers arrived, leaving the man badly hurt in the roadway. First responders rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police are now working the area for witnesses and any video that might have caught the fleeing vehicle, as the crash adds to a troubling run of recent pedestrian hit-and-runs across the city.
What the police say about the collision
According to FOX San Antonio, officers were called to the intersection at about 7:25 p.m. Saturday and found the 64-year-old man had been in the crosswalk, heading north across Wurzbach Road, when he was hit. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Witnesses told investigators the vehicle that struck him was an unknown sedan that kept going and did not return to the scene. As of the latest report, no suspects had been arrested, and the hit-and-run driver remained at large.
How to report tips
Per the San Antonio Police Department, anyone who might have information about the collision, including dash-cam or surveillance footage from the Wurzbach and Colonnade area around the time of the crash, is urged to call the department’s non-emergency line at 210-207-7273 or contact Crime Stoppers. Detectives say even small details from witnesses or blurry clips from security cameras can be crucial in identifying vehicles in hit-and-run investigations.
A worrying pattern
The crash comes amid a string of other recent hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians in San Antonio. In May, the Houston Chronicle reported that two separate hit-and-run collisions left pedestrians with life-threatening injuries. Those earlier cases prompted investigators to publicly urge anyone with information or video to step forward, a plea that has been repeated after similar incidents as authorities try to stem the rising toll on people simply trying to cross the street.
