The Oakland Athletics have reportedly signed left fielder Tyler Soderstrom to an $86 million, seven-year deal, pending a successful physical, the Associated Press reports. The contract would set a new team record, surpassing last year’s $67 million deal for Luis Severino, FOX40 reported.
The deal includes a club option for an eighth year and could reach $131 million with bonuses. The 24-year-old Soderstrom, batting .276 with 25 homers and 93 RBIs in his first full MLB season, was drafted 26th overall in 2020. Originally a catcher, he has played both left field and first base, FOX40 reports.
The agreement comes as the Athletics plan their move to Las Vegas in 2028, AP reports. Last offseason, the team signed Brent Rooker to a $60 million, five-year contract and Lawrence Butler to a $65.5 million, seven-year deal, reflecting efforts to build a competitive roster.
Soderstrom is eligible for arbitration in 2026 and free agency in 2029. By signing him to a long-term deal, the Athletics aim to secure their core talent as they prepare for their eventual move to Las Vegas.
