Oakland County sheriff's deputies faced a race against time and nature as they attempted to rescue a deer trapped on the ice of Crescent Lake in Waterford Township. Despite a well-coordinated effort deploying trucks, boats, and a team of determined individuals, the deer's life could not be saved after it was transported from the scene. The news of this event was shared by the sheriff's office in a sombre social media post.
"Our team recently responded to a call of an injured deer stuck on the ice. People have asked the status of the deer. Sadly, she was transported but could not be saved," the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office shared on their official social media. The post, which also featured images taken by a neighbor, painted a stark picture of the unsuccessful rescue attempt that took place last Thursday.

The scene described by local journalist Dave Bondy highlighted the efforts of the sheriff's office and their determination to save the stranded animal. Utilizing resources such as hovercrafts, which had previously been employed in the successful rescue of an injured swan in 2022, the team worked tirelessly in what would be a battle against the harsh realities of nature. In a post by the Detroit Free Press, there are four photographs that bear witness to the dramatic scene as rescuers made their approach across the precarious ice.
