A devastating house fire in Baltimore County's Randallstown neighborhood has left one person with critical injuries and two others displaced. According to WBAL-TV, the fire, which broke out last night at a residence on Cherrybrook Road, engulfed the first floor, causing significant damage.
Emergency responders, who were summoned to the fiery scene, encountered heavy flames upon their arrival. One of the residents suffered life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to a hospital. According to the Baltimore County Fire Department, the blaze was under control by 10:38 p.m. that evening, as reported by Fox Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Red Cross is providing aid to a resident who was not present when the fire started.
Baltimore County Fire Battalion Chief Ed Schwartz, in a statement obtained by WBAL-TV, addressed complications that arose during firefighting efforts. "Bystanders got the door open, which a lot of people think that helps out a lot. Unfortunately, what it does is it opens it up and oxygen gets in there and feeds the fire and it gets a lot hotter a lot faster" Schwartz said. He emphasized the importance of keeping ventilation openings closed to control the spread of the fire until water can be effectively applied.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire.
