In a decisive move to combat the housing challenges faced by low-income residents, Orange County has unlocked nearly half a million dollars from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) to aid in home repairs, specifically channeling $460,000 to the efforts of Rebuilding Together Greater Florida.
The unanimous vote by the County Commissioners, which took place on Tuesday, comes as a continued effort to strengthen the integrity of the county's housing, ensuring that at least 15 single-family homes occupied by their owners will see improvements this initiative is a part of the broader Housing For All Initiative which aims to sustain communities and offer residents a chance to maintain their homes without bearing the overbearing cost of repairs.
Rebuilding Together Greater Florida's Safe at Home program will be deploying these funds to address issues such as leaky roofs, faulty wiring, allergy and asthma triggers, HVAC problems and installing accessibility features for the disabled homeowners according to ClickOrlando, requirements for eligibility include owning a single home, being up to date on mortgage and property taxes, and having a household income at or below 120% of the Area Median Income.
Additionally, Anthony Peral, Vice President of Regional Programs at Rebuilding Together Greater Florida, expressed a profound gratitude for the support, stating in an interview that "Orange County's support not only strengthens our partnership but also expands our capacity to preserve housing stock, repair homes, improve family health, and revitalize neighborhoods across the region," as reported by The Apopka Voice.
