Financial records reported by WFTV revealed that Legends Academy spent hundreds of thousands more than it earned for several years, leading up to this unexpected shutdown, in the 2021 tax year the institution spent $900,000 more than it collected, despite having brought in $360,000 more than its expenditures back in 2020; raising questions as to why stakeholders, including parents and staff, weren't warned about the looming financial crisis sooner.
The announcement blindsided parents, and their worries have been compounded by the need to seek out alternative schooling options quickly. The Orange County School District is stepping in to ease the transition by assisting families in registering their children at neighborhood public schools and hosting paperwork sessions.
