The Placer County Sheriff's Office issued a public safety alert for North Auburn after a hidden camera was found on December 19. The camera was disguised with fake leaves and powered by an external battery, allowing it to operate unnoticed. Officials said this is the first such incident in the county and may be linked to recent high-value home burglaries in the area.
Authorities found a hidden camera in areas including Granite Bay, Loomis, and Roseville, which have had recent burglaries, as reported by ABC10. The crimes may be linked to South American Theft Groups, who are suspected of using surveillance, stolen vehicles, false identities, and hidden cameras. Detectives are reviewing the camera footage to see if it recorded any activity or connects to other incidents. Officials said the camera was discovered before a burglary could occur, as per CBS News Sacramento.
The sheriff's office is advising residents to stay alert. "If you notice unfamiliar objects in bushes, landscaping, or near your home that appear out of place; especially items that resemble cameras or electronic devices, do not touch them," the office said. Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity or devices to local law enforcement, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page.
