Residents of Allegheny County experienced a power outage after damage occurred to multiple wires, affecting thousands in the area. According to a report by WPXI, yesterday morning, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) acknowledged that approximately 2,000 individuals in neighborhoods including Mt. Oliver, New Homestead, and Munhall were left without electricity. The cause of the wire damage that led to the outage is still being looked into.
As the day progressed, power was restored to most homes affected by the outage. WTAE updated that fewer than five homes appeared to still be without power as of 6:10 p.m. yesterday. Initially, an estimate from DLC projected that power would return between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. due to the complexities involved in the repairs.
DLC has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the exact cause of the wire damage. An outage map provided by DLC was available for residents to stay informed about restoration efforts and the current state of services across the county.
