Raleigh residents are getting fresh pine trees for the holidays. Keeping the tree watered is important for its health. According to the City of Raleigh, Raleigh Water suggests that a tree may use up to one gallon of water in the first 24 hours it is inside.
To make the tree last longer, it is necessary to ensure the water level does not drop below the base of the tree. Raleigh Water states that the average tree may use one quart of water daily for every inch of the trunk's diameter. This water is needed to maintain the tree's needles and freshness.
If people are concerned about overwatering, Raleigh Water states that this will not harm the tree. However, letting the tree run out of water is not recommended. Raleigh Water noted, "Good news; you can't overwater the tree," as reported by the City of Raleigh.
