In the heart of Rancho Cordova, a community-driven initiative is making education both practical and enjoyable for local students. Mills Middle School's eighth graders had the chance to literally way to quickly launch their studies into the air last month by sending 100 rockets skyward in a hands-on learning event, thanks to a partnership with Solidigm, a memory and storage solutions firm based in Rancho Cordova. The excitement was tangible as rockets built by the students pierced the sky, the air filled with cheers while each rocket took flight.

Further adding to the community's flourish of educational support, Cordova Meadows Elementary School's garden received a major upgrade, made possible by the volunteer efforts from Lowe’s Home Improvement. An enthusiastic team, which included Lowe’s associates alongside Principal Amber Fontaine's parents, dedicated a day to refurbish the garden. Their efforts involved sweeping, cleaning, and painting, leaving the garden transformed into an inviting outdoor learning environment. This project was part of the Lowe’s Hometowns initiative, which contributed a grant to facilitate the makeover, and volunteers also generously donated amenities worth nearly $4,000, including new tables, chairs, and benches.

These initiatives exemplify the synergy between businesses, volunteers, and the educational community in Rancho Cordova, all working towards fostering spaces where students not only learn academically but also grow through real-world experiences.
