A Wexford County couple is facing multiple felony charges of child abuse. Christopher Allen, a 33-year-old Reed City resident, and Wesley Ann Conner, aged 21 from Leroy, stand accused of horrific abuse of Allen's minor relative, who was under two years old at the time of the alleged offenses in 2023, according to an announcement by the Michigan Attorney General's Office.
Allen faces a charge of First-Degree Child Abuse, which carries a potential life sentence, and one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse, a crime that can result in up to 10 years in prison. His partner, Conner, has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse and one count of Third-Degree Child Abuse, the latter of which has a maximum sentence of 2 years. These charges reflect the seriousness of the allegations at hand – a child subjected to violence in what should be the sanctuary of their own home.
In a statement, which reflects the gravity of this case, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said, "No child should ever have to endure abuse, especially at the hands of adults who are expected to protect and care for them." She continued to assert her office's dedication, per the Michigan Attorney General's Office, "My office remains committed to holding accountable those who inflict such harm on some of our most vulnerable."
The pretrial date for Allen and Conner has not been scheduled yet.
