Former doctor Oumair Aejaz was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison after pleading no contest to 31 charges of sexual misconduct, including first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct, involving victims as young as two years old. The case drew strong attention in Rochester Hills due to the seriousness of his crimes against both adults and children.
The investigation started in August 2024 when Aejaz’s wife reported that he had secretly recorded their family, leading authorities to find over 13,000 videos on computers and cellphones, according to ClickOnDetroit. The materials showed victims in compromising situations, including one woman assaulted while unconscious in a hospital bed, and revealed he had also targeted individuals at the Goldfish Swim Club and hospitals where he worked.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, "This sentence ensures Oumair Aejaz will never again harm another victim," while emphasizing support for the victims, as obtained by CBS News Detroit. Aejaz has been sentenced in criminal court, and Henry Ford Hospital has agreed to a $140 million class-action settlement for over 8,200 survivors. Attorney Jim Harrington, representing some survivors, said, "I fully anticipate that there’s going to be more charges brought — there are more survivors out there — and I know this for a fact," as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit. The criminal case is concluded, but civil proceedings are still ongoing.
