Rosenberg will soon have a new halal meat market and eatery called AJ Meat and Eat. The shop will offer a halal meat counter and ready-to-eat dishes like biryani, kabab, and chicken 65. Owner Shaista Jahan said the store will open in Town Center Village by next spring to serve the local Muslim community.
According to What Now Houston, the business has filed a state permit that lists construction starting at the beginning of next year and a buildout scheduled to wrap by April 2026. The outlet reports AJ Meat and Eat is expected to take over Suite 166 at 5149 Reading Road in Rosenberg's Town Center retail strip. Jahan noted that the April timeline still depends on how permitting and construction play out.
"I chose Rosenberg because of the Muslim community," Jahan told What Now Houston. She said the menu will be built from family recipes and include dishes such as chicken curry and chicken 65 alongside kabab and biryani. The concept is still in its early days, with no social media profiles or website set up yet.
Town Center Location And Buildout
The future AJ Meat and Eat space sits at 5149 Reading Road in the Town Center Village retail center, a newly marketed strip-center development with multiple small suites and strong frontage on Reading Road. Property listings highlight the center's proximity to US-59 and describe roughly 20,000 square feet of retail space carved into leasable suites, which developers present as a good fit for neighborhood-focused food and grocery concepts. LoopNet carries leasing and property details for the center.
What To Expect
Jahan envisions AJ Meat and Eat as a hybrid grocery counter and quick kitchen aimed at families and neighborhood cooks, where customers can grab takeout-ready plates and pick up meat to cook at home. The opening tracks with a broader wave of ethnic grocers and specialty food concepts expanding into Fort Bend County and nearby suburbs. Axios Houston recently noted that Fort Bend County has the largest share of foreign-born residents in Greater Houston, a demographic trend that favors halal and South Asian food businesses. For now, Jahan and leasing partners say they will share firm opening details as permitting and the buildout move forward.
