As the holidays end in Sacramento, residents are removing decorations and disposing of Christmas trees. "Up to five trees per residence can be placed in an organic waste container or piled in the street," with the Claw available for collection. Jesa David, spokesperson for the Recycling and Solid Waste Division, said, "If you’re waiting for a pickup or don’t get leaf season service, another option is to break down your tree and prune the branches so it fits in your container," according to FOX40. Decorations and non-organic materials must be removed, and trees and leaf piles should be kept away from storm drains and bike lanes.
Trash, organic waste, and recycling collection in Sacramento largely continued on schedule during the holiday season, with only a few areas like Elk Grove and Galt experiencing one-day delays, as reported by Sacramento Bee. Folsom and Rancho Cordova followed their regular pickup schedules.
Residents can recycle their trees at designated drop-off locations, including SMUD Corporation Yard, North Area Recovery Station, Kiefer Landfill, and Folsom’s Dan Russell Rodeo Arena on select dates in early January. All curbside and drop-off recycling must follow city guidelines, with the final day for collection set for February 1, 2026, and detailed schedules available on the City’s website.
