In a domestic disturbance that escalated into a shooting incident on the city's South Side, a San Antonio Police Department officer was involved in the wounding of a 23-year-old man. As reported by KSAT, the man, identified as Eric Campos, now faces charges of deadly conduct and criminal mischief following the confrontation that took place late last week.

The sequence of events unfolded shortly after 2 p.m. on a Saturday near Southwest Military Drive and Interstate 35 South. An initial call concerning family violence led officers to the 2000 block of Ann Arbor Drive, where Campos was accused of threatening a woman he knew along with her co-worker. Despite the tangle of circumstances, one detail remains clear: Campos pursued the two as they traveled, resulting in a vehicular and firearm confrontation.

According to FOX San Antonio, the coworker, in response to Campos's aggressive actions, fired multiple rounds toward Campos' vehicle. Officer Jacob Munoz, who was near the incident site, discharged his weapon towards the vehicle he perceived was the threat. Campos sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder; however, it remains unknown if the bullet that struck him was from the coworker or the officer's gun.

Following the shooting, Campos was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. McManus indicated that "This is a bit of a complicated story," highlighting the complex nature of the scenario that unfolded, as per KSAT. While Officer Munoz, a two-year veteran of the SAPD, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, there were no other physical injuries reported from the incident.

The SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit will conduct separate but concurrent investigations into the shooting, a process that will also involve the Bexar County District Attorney’s office for an independent review.
