A Bexar County judge sentenced 26-year-old Kamron Kearney to 47 years in prison for pouring scalding water on his disabled roommate and setting her on fire in October 2023. The victim suffered severe burns to her arms, legs, neck, and back.
Kearney was sentenced Monday, KENS 5 reports. Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said Kearney ‘exploited a vulnerable victim and subjected her to horrific acts of violence’ and called the 47-year sentence appropriate.
What Prosecutors Say
Police and an arrest affidavit state the violence began Oct. 25, 2023, at a home in the 200 block of Victor Street. Kearney reportedly poured ‘pitchers full of scalding hot water’ over the shower where the woman was being bathed, then doused her with rubbing alcohol and set her on fire twice, worsening her burns. KSAT reported the victim described the attacks to officers who responded two days later.
Charges And Background
Court records list charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and injury to a disabled person, causing serious bodily injury. After his arrest, Kearney was held on a $250,000 bond, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Local coverage also notes that the victim was a 36-year-old woman with autism who receives monthly disability payments, and that Kearney had previous assault-related convictions, as reported by MySA.
Prosecutors' Response And Next Steps
Prosecutors said the sentence reflects the woman’s injuries and that Kearney targeted a dependent victim. Court filings will formalize the judgment. No statement has been released by the defense.
Broader Concern
Advocates have called attention to the case, noting the victim continues a long recovery. Local reporting also urged anyone with information about the 2023 incident to contact investigators.
