The Metropolitan Police Department has reported the arrest of a second suspect in connection with a fatal shooting last year in Northwest Washington. The incident, which took the life of 18-year-old Raymond Washington, has been under investigation since its occurrence on a bustling summer afternoon.

According to the MPD's statement, the shooting happened on Saturday, June 30, 2024, around 4:17 p.m., when officers were called to the 700 block of Missouri Avenue, Northwest, following reports of gunfire. The subsequent search led them to an adult male victim on the 5700 block of 7th Street, Northwest. Despite rushed efforts to save his life, the victim later identified as Washington from Northeast, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

The first arrest made in the case was of 40-year-old Byron Sneed from Northwest, DC. On March 21, Sneed was taken into custody and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated) as a result of the detectives' thorough investigation.

On the heels of this development, yesterday, December 8, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force took 18-year-old Treshawn Herndon into custody. Herndon, hailing from Upper Marlboro, MD, was apprehended on an arrest warrant issued by DC Superior Court. Although Herndon was a minor at the time of Washington's death, he will be facing charges as an adult for First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated), as stated by the MPD.
