The 2019 event saw a Saudi military trainee take the lives of three U.S. Navy sailors - Joshua Kaleb Watson, Mohammed Haitham, and Cameron Walters - while wounding several others. Senators Tommy Tuberville, Raphael Warnock, Jon Ossoff, and Katie Britt also supported the resolution.
Moody, speaking on the anniversary, reminded us that "Six years ago, three brave Americans, Joshua Kaleb Watson, Mohammed Haitham and Cameron Walters, lost their lives at the hands of a tragic shooting at NAS Pensacola while serving our country. We must never forget their sacrifice." Her statement, secured by Moody's Senate website, emphasized the courage of law enforcement, first responders, and civilians who responded to the incident. Moody implored, "This weekend, please take a moment to remember those we lost, their families and loved ones, and the entire panhandle and military community who was impacted by this evil attack."
Commemorating the loss, Senator Rick Scott said, “Ahead of the sixth anniversary of the devastating shooting at NAS Pensacola that took the lives of three brave Americans, we pause to honor their service and the lives they devoted to defending our nation.” Scott's statements, also found on Moody's Senate website, mentioned the Secure U.S. Bases Act that became law following the attack and his ongoing commitment to security reform. "I will never stop working to make sure our bases are safe and this never happens again," affirmed Scott, reiterating his resolve to prevent future tragedies.
