A roadside confrontation on Houston’s south side turned deadly when a woman was pinned between two vehicles and later died at a hospital, according to police. Officers found her critically injured in a residential area, and investigators say the collision followed a chase between two cars that is now being treated as a fatal crash investigation, as reported by KPRC.
What police say
The crash was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of Corder Street, where officers arrived to find the victim pinned between two vehicles, according to KPRC. The outlet reports she was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery but did not survive.
Investigators told reporters the confrontation started with an argument closer to Highway 288 and escalated into a high-speed chase that spilled off the main road and into the neighborhood, according to KPRC. What began as a dispute on the roadway ended with a bystander caught in the middle.
Scene and evidence
A video report from KHOU relays that Houston police described the incident as a road-rage style altercation. According to the station, officers said a pursuing driver struck a bystander and trapped her between vehicles during the chase.
Authorities told KHOU the driver of the chasing vehicle showed signs of intoxication at the scene, though specialized DWI investigators will have to determine whether impairment actually played a role. HPD’s Southeast Patrol officers and the Vehicular Crimes Division handled the scene as they documented evidence and interviewed witnesses.
Investigation and possible charges
Investigators said the Harris County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene to consult with HPD as they weighed potential charges, KPRC reports. Prosecutors could pursue counts such as manslaughter or negligent homicide, depending on where the evidence and crash reconstruction ultimately point.
Police emphasized that any charging decisions will hinge on the results of the DWI inquiry, the broader vehicular-crimes investigation and supporting forensic findings, according to KPRC. As of the latest updates, authorities had not publicly released the names of anyone involved and had not announced any arrests.
What’s next
HPD detectives are still reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements while they wait for toxicology and other forensic results to come back, according to KHOU. The department has asked anyone with additional information to contact the Vehicular Crimes Division.
The investigation remains active, and officials say more details will be released as they are confirmed.
