The St. Johns County Clerk’s Office has launched a shadowing program. The program, called "Scholars in Service: The Clerk Experience," is open to high school seniors, college students, and recent graduates and provides an opportunity to observe the operations of the Clerk’s Office and gain practical experience in government work, according to an official announcement.
Clerk Brandon J. Patty stated in an official announcement that the program is designed to "inspire the next generation by giving students a meaningful look inside the work we do every day on behalf of our community." Participants will have the opportunity to observe courtroom procedures, explore the office's administrative functions, and meet with leadership and courthouse staff to learn about career paths in public service.
The one-day program is customized to match each participant’s academic focus and career goals. Students and recent graduates can shadow court proceedings, explore the various responsibilities within the Clerk’s Office, and meet with officials involved in legal, governmental, and public service roles.
Jahkaris Johnson, a pre-law student at Florida State University studying criminology and international affairs, was the first participant in the program on November 21. In an official announcement, Johnson said, "Participating in the Scholars in Service program gave me an incredible opportunity to experience the Clerk’s Office firsthand." During the program, he attended the Adoption Day celebration and observed judicial processes, gaining direct insight into the daily operations of the Clerk’s Office.
