Nearly four years after a burglary resulted in the loss of over $250,000 worth of jewelry in Columbus, an arrest has finally been made. The Columbus Division of Police, via a social media post, shared the progression of an investigation that began on January 2, 2022, when officers were called to the 5000 block of Tuttle Crossing. "The victim reported several smashed glass cases and over $250,000 of missing jewelry," detailed the post from the Columbus Division of Police.
As the case unfolded over the years, it didn't reach a turning point until November, when a warrant was filed for the arrest of Dashaun Allen, now 24 years old. The warrant issuance followed after evidence from the scene was processed. Allen was arrested on Wednesday by the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, facing charges directly stemming from the burglary incident. The sequence of events, spanning nearly four years, sought to finally bring some semblance of closure to a case that lingered in the docket of unsolved crimes.
The breaking point in the case seems to have hinged upon the slow grind of forensic investigation. Columbus police, who had been working the case since the initial report, did not provide specific details about the evidence that led to Allen's arrest. However, the arrest signaled a notable advancement in a prolonged investigation that might otherwise have continued to drift in the backwaters of unresolved criminal acts.
Allen's arrest, coming on the eve of Christmas, adds a significant marker to his life story – a young man, merely twenty-four, now enmeshed within the criminal justice system. The accused, having to navigate a path littered with legal procedures and protocols, stands at the threshold of a process that might just as thoroughly transform him as it seeks to adjudicate his innocence or guilt.
