Tacos A Go Go is cranking its taco game up a level this winter, with two high-profile inner-loop projects that mark the biggest growth push for the family-run taqueria in years. The Houston-born chain is relocating its Heights outpost to a larger Yale Street space and adding a new Memorial/Tanglewood restaurant, and for the first time in the brand's nearly two-decade run, both spots will feature full bars with a cocktail program led by local bartender Bobby Heugel.
Where they'll be
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Heights restaurant will move into the former Lola Neighborhood Diner at 1102 Yale St., while a brand-new Tacos A Go Go will take over the former Killen’s STQ space at 2231 S. Voss Rd. The Chronicle reports that both locations come with larger footprints, which means more seating and kitchen space than the existing White Oak and Midtown spots. The paper notes that the company announced the Yale and Voss projects in a release and described them as opening by the end of 2025.
Full bar and cocktails
This expansion is not just about more tables. It is a strategic shift into full-service drinking and dining, with the owners bringing in Anvil alum Bobby Heugel to design a cocktail program centered on Mexican spirits and family-owned producers. Community Impact quotes founder Sharon Haynes as saying the bigger layouts will give the team "room to make fresh tortillas every day and serve Fajitas A Go Go family packs," while Heugel builds a drinks menu meant to play directly off the tacos.
What this means for the chain
Tacos A Go Go first opened on Main Street in 2006 and is still led by founder Sharon Haynes and chef-co-owner Maribel Gomez, according to the restaurant's press materials. The chain's website currently lists five Houston locations. Owners say the new Yale and Voss restaurants will give them the room to expand menu offerings, boost kitchen output and support family-style to-go packs that the smaller outposts cannot easily handle.
Local context
Local coverage has largely cast the move as Tacos A Go Go finally adding a nightlife angle to what has mostly been a daytime-focused operation. Outlets including the Houston Press and CultureMap note that Heugel's involvement could pull in an evening crowd that might have skipped the smaller, counter-style locations. Observers also point out that the new Heights address offers more parking, a rare perk in that neighborhood that could help both nighttime service and takeout business.
Owners have not released firm opening dates. WhatNow most recently republished the announcement on Dec. 22, 2025, and the company has been posting occasional construction and concept updates on its social channels. Expect official grand opening details and full menus once the buildouts wrap up.
