Travel woes persisted at Tampa International Airport over the weekend, with nearly 150 flights delayed and 16 cancellations reported as of early Saturday morning. This marked a continuation of difficulties from Friday, where passengers saw over 200 flights delayed and 38 cancellations by the day's end. As travelers faced disruptions, a TPA spokesperson highlighted weather and crew issues due to northern storm systems as primary causes for the delays, especially those affecting hub airports like Detroit.

Inclement northern weather caused travel disruptions as Tampa International Airport handled 632 flights on Friday. More than 100 flights were delayed on both Friday and Saturday, WFLA reported. Airport officials are preparing for the post-Christmas travel rush, a historically busy period.

The disruptions affected primarily arriving flights, SNNtv reported, showing how weather and logistical issues in one region can impact travel nationwide. A winter storm across the Midwest and Northeast, affecting 60 million Americans, added to the holiday weekend travel challenges.

According to FOX13, Travelers shared tips for navigating the busy airport. Vincent Agresti, flying to Denver, advised, “Be well-prepared,” while Laketa Cole, headed to Cincinnati, arrived early, anticipating delays. Liam Marshall, traveling to Salt Lake City, suggested, “Know what you can and cannot take, don’t get flagged by TSA, and just be smart.” From December 18 to January 5, 2026, TPA expects to handle 1.4 million passengers.
