A series of vehicle-pedestrian collisions on Saturday night in San Antonio resulted in three people suffering serious injuries, with two of the incidents involving hit-and-run drivers, officials said. The San Antonio Police Department is currently investigating these separate events, which transpired across different parts of the city within a span of just a few hours.
The first incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on the North Side, where a 64-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while he was lawfully crossing the street at the 9900 block of Wurzbach Road and Colonnade Boulevard. According to Express-News, "the driver of 'an unknown Sedan struck' him" and then fled the scene without assisting. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and as of yet, "No suspects have been apprehended at this time."
A second hit-and-run took place later on the South Side near the 8600 block of South Zarzamora Street. At around 9:30 p.m., a 66-year-old woman, while checking her vehicle outside her residence, was "abruptly struck" by a 2011 Nissan Rogue. The driver involved has not been identified and remains at large. The injured woman received prompt medical attention at the hospital, according to Express-News.
Unlike earlier incidents, the driver of a Ford SD pickup truck remained at the scene after hitting a 52-year-old man who was crossing WW White Road on the East Side. The collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 1700 block of W.W. White Road, at a location not marked as a crosswalk, KSAT reported. The man sustained major injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital. "The driver contacted police, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation," per the police statement.
The San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate all three accidents, reminding the public that additional information could surface as their inquiries progress. With any incident involving vehicle collisions, SAPD's policies focus on gathering evidence and statements to ascertain the events leading to the injury and hold responsible parties accountable for their actions. The condition of the injured pedestrians is being monitored, and updates are expected as the situations unfold and investigations continue.
