The Cibolo Police Department has arrested three employees from Watts Elementary School on serious misconduct charges, as reported by local news outlets. The arrests are the latest development in a case that began with allegations reported to the police by the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District (SCUCISD) on Dec. 17, News 4 San Antonio reports.
Cibolo Police arrested Julia Cantu, Veronica Guerra-Ulrich, and Jessica Longo yesterday. Cantu, a paraprofessional at Watts Elementary, is charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony. Guerra-Ulrich and Longo, also paraprofessionals, face charges of unlawful restraint, a state jail felony, according to KSAT.
The case has drawn significant community attention because the suspects are school staff charged with harming children. In a statement obtained by KSAT, Cibolo Police Chief Thedrick Andres emphasized the situation’s gravity: “The Cibolo Police Department places the highest priority on the safety and well-being of children in our community.”
Detectives reviewed camera footage and interviewed SCUCISD administrators, establishing probable cause for the arrests. The investigation is ongoing and may lead to additional charges. The police, SCUCISD, and the Guadalupe County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to work closely on the case, though specifics about the initial complaint have not been released.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Police and the school district are working together to investigate the misconduct and hold those responsible accountable. Updates on the investigation will be shared as they become available.
