On November 18, in the Edgewood Village neighborhood of Northeast Harris County, a three-year-old boy, Santiago Capetillo, was seriously injured after a neighbor’s dog entered the family’s home and attacked him. The boy suffered fractured facial bones and lost teeth. Santiago’s mother, Valeria Capetillo, told Click2Houston, "I tried to put my leg so he could bite me instead, but he just went after him."
The Capetillo family was preparing to help a lost dog find its way home when the animal suddenly attacked their son. Valeria Capetillo said, "I took a peek, literally opened the door," and added, "It just happened so fast, and I couldn’t try to stop the dog," while Alex Capetillo described, "So, I choked the dog enough to go ahead to where the dog kind of gave a little cry. Let go and finally, whenever the dog let go, I went ahead and just picked him up and threw him outside of the house," as reported by WDBJ7.
The neighbor's dog, owned by Jermaine, remains at the residence despite the attack and subsequent rabies testing, which led to a fine against him. Jermaine said, “I’m a truck driver. I was on the road. I don’t know what really took place. It’s an allegation. You know what I mean?” while Alex Capetillo expressed ongoing safety concerns: "I got to carry my gun in my hand walking to the car because I’m scared that the dog might come out," as per WDBJ7.
