The U.S. Marshals are intensifying their search for Andre Campbell, a 53-year-old Northeast Ohio man wanted on weapons charges. As reported by Cleveland19, Campbell is facing charges for having weapons under disability, with authorities announcing a reward for information leading to his arrest on Monday. Campbell, known to frequent the Cleveland and Youngstown areas, stands 5'9" and weighs 190 pounds according to details provided by WYTV, which has featured him as Fugitive of the Week.
Concurrent with this manhunt, Youngstown police, running a red light at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, apprehended a man at McGuffey Road and Albert Street just been released from serving prison time for a hit-and-run death. Reports obtained by WKBN, the driver, identified as Johnson, admitted to having a loaded 9mm handgun under the driver's seat of his car when questioned by the police.
Johnson, who had only been out of prison for a short while, was arraigned on Monday in municipal court with a bond set at $7,500. The discovery of the firearm, considering his criminal history, underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in tackling gun-related offenses in the region.
As authorities pursue leads on Campbell, the community is left to reckon with the implications of such violations and the broader issues of weapons proliferation. Charged with having weapons under disability, Campbell may be trying to stay under the radar, with the U.S. Marshals Service calling upon the public to come forward with any information that might aid in his apprehension. The search brings into sharp relief the nexus of crime, punishment, and public safety that continues to be of urgent concern for residents across Northeast Ohio.
