In a concerted effort to combat financial fraud in Central Florida, the U.S. Secret Service, in coordination with the Orlando Field Office and local law enforcement, has been cracking down on card skimming operations. According to reports by FOX 35 Orlando, these agencies have undertaken a sweep of as many as 1,000 stores across Central Florida, in search of illicit skimming devices surreptitiously stealing unsuspecting consumers' card data.

Fitting seamlessly atop or inside card readers at points of sale, ATMs, and gas pumps, skimmers are sophisticated enough to evade detection by store clerks and shoppers. Revealed in footage obtained by the Secret Service, criminals are adept at installing these devices in the blink of an eye, leveraging moments when store clerks look away, as explained by the Secret Service Agent Caroline O'Brien-Buster in her interview, reported by WFTV.

Given the insidious nature of these skimming devices, the Secret Service has issued tips to help shoppers steer clear of becoming victims. Measures such as changing PINs regularly, opting for "Tap to Pay" services, and vigilantly monitoring bank accounts for fraudulent transactions were among the recommendations provided. But it's EBT users who are exceptionally vulnerable, as they lack the robust security measures credit and debit cards possess. "They’re so easy to skim. There’s not, there’s not a lot of… there’s actually zero security on them," O'Brien-Buster said, as per WFTV.

By disseminating such crucial information and continuing their tactical raids, the U.S. Secret Service is diligently working to dismantle the hidden networks of credit card skimmers. These deceptive devices have been draining millions from Floridians on a yearly basis, and the Secret Service has made significant progress by uncovering seven skimmers as of yesterday.
