As the holiday season approaches, Upper Arlington residents can expect some changes to city services, including adjusted garbage collection and special holiday hours for community centers. The City of Upper Arlington has recently announced these updates to help residents plan ahead. According to an official statement, city offices will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25, and New Year's Day, January 1, 2026, with trash and recycling collection zones normally serviced on Thursdays to be delayed by a day following the holidays.
In addition to the waste schedule changes, the Bob Crane Community Center will see shortened hours of operation on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, opening from 5:30 am to 2 pm, and closures on Christmas and New Year's Days. Residents with real Christmas trees can set them out for collection on their usual yard waste pick-up days. Trees taller than eight feet must be cut in half, and decorations must be removed. These trees should be placed at the curb by 7 am.
For those eager to dispose of holiday detritus responsibly, the city offers a recycling program specifically for holiday lights. After the season ends, collection bins will become available at the Municipal Services Center, located at 3600 Tremont Road, to accept lights. A reminder was issued that these and other electronic wastes should not be placed in the blue recycling containers.
Moreover, residents are encouraged to drop off live trees free of charge at Ohio Mulch on Roberts Road, with a proof of residency potentially being required, the city's electronic waste drop-off site, also on Roberts Road, accepts holiday lights and other e-wastes year-round. As the City gears up for holiday cheer amidst the hustle and bustle of the season's end, they hope to alleviate some of the stress with these announced service changes. They wish everyone "a safe and joyous holiday season," as mentioned by the City of Upper Arlington.
