In a tragic turn of events in Vallejo, police have arrested a man for the murder of his wife following a missing person report initiated by a concerned friend. According to a social media post from the Vallejo Police Department, the incident began on Tuesday, when officers responded to a call regarding a potential missing person from the 1000 block of Oakwood Avenue. The report was made after the individual, a woman, did not show up for her job, raising immediate concerns about her welfare, particularly because of a reported threat on her life by her husband.
Upon conducting a welfare check at the woman's apartment complex and receiving no response, a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert was issued for her vehicle. The subsequent discovery of the victim came on Wednesday, after a maintenance worker found her unresponsive in her residence. She had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Vallejo Police Department's Detective Division took over the investigation, eventually identifying the victim's husband, Zheer Queja Malassab, as the suspect in this homicide.
They quickly obtained an arrest warrant for Malassab and traced the victim's vehicle to Pennsylvania. In coordination with the Pennsylvania State Police, Malassab was located and apprehended following a failed attempt to evade capture under challenging road conditions due to snow. "Zheer was arrested without incident, and he admitted to shooting his wife after he was Mirandized," according to the Vallejo Police Department. He is currently awaiting extradition to California, where he will face murder charges and be booked into the Solano County Jail.
