A FedEx truck met an unexpected detour yesterday when it veered off a driveway and ended up in a Washington County creek. According to WPXI, emergency crews were called to the 1500 block of Henderson Avenue in Canton Township around 1 p.m. No serious injuries were reported from the crash, though the truck was significantly off-course, having landed on its passenger side in the creek below.
The accident occurred just feet away from a residential property, prompting the homeowner to employ his tractor to assist in the rescue of the driver. "I unloaded it, got him to get into the bucket, put the bucket into the creek where he could do it. We got him in safely, backed out, put him down," homeowner Sean told CBS News Pittsburgh. His quick thinking and action provided a makeshift bridge to carry the driver to safety. Images from the scene depict the driver managing to escape through the driver's side window before aid arrived.
Following the incident, FedEx emphasized its stance on safety with a spokesperson stating, "Safety is of the utmost importance to FedEx, and we are grateful there were no major injuries due to this incident. We extend our appreciation to the first responders who arrived to assist the driver involved," in a statement obtained by WPXI.
