The West Allis Police Department has ramped up its annual effort to support local women and children affected by domestic abuse during the holiday season. Through their WISH Program (Women Initiate Self-Healing and Hope), they are calling upon the community to help provide for these families as many are in the process of starting over. A post from the West Allis Police Department's Facebook account states that "Donations accepted until December 16th" as they look to "restore hope and bring joy to local women and kids rebuilding their lives."
To contribute to the cause, people can access the SignUpGenius page to view personal wish lists, donate items through the Amazon Wish List, make monetary donations, or drop off new, unwrapped items at the WAPD Records Unit. According to the West Allis Police Department's social media post, "each holiday season, many WISH families are starting over and struggle to provide gifts for their children."
The SignUpGenius link provided takes donors to a detailed list where they can specifically select items that families have requested. Alternatively, the Amazon Wish List simplifies the process, allowing Amazon to directly ship the necessary items to the West Allis Police Department. Those preferring to donate monetarily can write checks payable to the West Allis Police Department, ensuring that the funds are used for food and other essential supplies.
For those looking to drop off gifts, the WAPD Records Unit located at 11301 W. Lincoln Ave, West Allis, WI, is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. Mail-in packages from retailers like Target and Walmart are also welcome at the WISH Gift Drive, at the same address. For questions or to arrange alternate drop-off times, individuals can contact Community Services at 414-302-8050. The West Allis Police Department expresses its gratitude, “Thank you for helping brighten the season for local families.”
