The City of West Allis has issued an update regarding its leaf collection efforts.  As it stands, the Public Works teams have amassed a substantial backlog of leaf piles to address, a consequence of competing municipal demands and inevitable mechanical setbacks. As of December 8, the total count stands at 178,  as per the City of West Allis Facebook page.

The update explained that crews made 92 trips to Morgan Avenue using 71 dump trucks and 21 large containers. Productivity dropped compared to earlier days because workers had to get equipment ready for the parade—this meant washing, decorating, and adding signs. They also had to convert dump trucks into snow-fighting vehicles because snow was expected on Wednesday. On top of that, there were some equipment problems, and three employees were sent out to start anti-icing main roads, as detailed by the City of West Allis.

This work wasn’t done by city staff alone—23 volunteers also helped with the leaf collection. With snow and rain expected soon, crews are focusing on clearing the piles already on the ground. The approaching bad weather makes this a priority, according to the City of West Allis.

Understanding the urgency and despite the aforementioned setbacks, the Public Works department remains steadfast in their commitment. The update further conveyed that "crews will continue to work 12-hour shifts this week, pushing and collecting the last 7 sections of the City," as per the  City of West Allis.
