Residents in West Arlington are now cruising along a newly reconstructed Sublett Road, following the completion of a major infrastructure project that clocked in at $9.5 million. The overhaul of the stretch between Joplin Road and the city's western limits, a voter-backed initiative, aimed to accommodate not just vehicles but also cyclists and pedestrians more safely and effectively, as per the City of Arlington.

The undertaking, which began back in May 2023 and wrapped up in June 2025, saw Sublett Road transform from a modest two-lane path into a more robust three-lane thoroughfare, complete with bike lanes and a brand-new bridge over Kee Branch. In discussion about the city's focus on enhancing mobility, the project was financed through the 2018 Bond Election and the Tarrant County 2006 Transportation Bond Program, as highlighted by the Public Works Engineering Operation Division.

Apart from easing traffic woes, the project brought sidewalks, advanced water utilities, an updated storm drain system, fresh pavement markings, new street signs, and streetlights. According to a statement obtained by Amberley Shelby from Public Works Communication, these kinds of roadway reconstruction projects are essential to maintain the state of good repair of roadways across Arlington's expanse.

Fiscal Year 2025, ending on September 30, saw Arlington pour more than $20 million into roadway rebuilds and reconstructions. And, even though that's a hefty sum, proponents argue it's a crucial investment for improving the daily commutes and overall quality of life for those in the area.
