An Anne Arundel County sheriff's deputy sustained minor injuries after his cruiser's windshield was shattered by ice that slid off another vehicle, officials confirmed. The incident, which occurred on Maryland Route 97, prompted authorities to issue reminders urging drivers to remove snow and ice from their vehicles before hitting the road. According to the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office, the deputy was able to keep control of his vehicle post-impact, driving it safely to the Millersville shop before he was taken to a hospital for treatment; this was reported by WBALTV.
In a separate statement, the Sheriff's Office stressed the dangers of not clearing vehicles properly, particularly emphasizing the risk that icy projectiles pose to others on the road, "This incident serves as an important reminder to all motorists: please fully clear snow and ice from your vehicles before driving," reminding that simple precautions can prevent hazardous situations, as obtained by Daily Voice.
Additionally, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department issued a warning about the perils lingering after the recent snowstorm, commenting on the broader array of dangerous conditions spawned by the wintry weather beyond the obvious slippery streets. The Fire Department noted in advice for motorists that the combination of snow, ice, solar panels, and roofs has become a recipe for disaster, with large chunks of ice sliding off surfaces unexpectedly, causing damage and posing risks to pedestrians and vehicles alike.
