Arlington’s felines are catching a break with a budget boost from Petco Love. Arlington Animal Services' Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program recently got a financial leg up in the form of a $25,000 grant from the national nonprofit Petco Love, an infusion that's helping control the local cat population without putting a dent in residents' wallets. The TNR service has been a lynchpin strategy for managing Arlington’s community cats, thanks to the generosity of the grant received last May.
The expansive reach of these efforts is evident, Arlington is offering Feral Cat clinics at no cost, enabled by the Petco Love grant which has, since May 2025, allowed for the free neutering and spaying of 267 cats, while also providing rabies vaccinations and ear tipping and though the clinics run only once a month, they are a pivotal tool in fighting pet overpopulation. Ashley Woolnough, Arlington Animal Services Manager, emphasized the impact of the grant, telling the City of Arlington, "This generous grant from Petco Love is a game-changer for our community."
This move is part of broader attempts to improve animal welfare and curb the influx of cats into shelters, an issue that hits many communities hard. TNR services strip away financial barriers that often hamper spaying or neutering efforts, making it a cornerstone in the quest for humane management of feral cat colonies within Arlington's borders. The program also aims to dampen common nuisances, such as yowls and fights, associated with unchecked feral cat activities, thus ameliorating neighbors' concerns and boosting the overall quality of life for these community critters.
