Residents of Aurora, get ready for a change in your neighborhood policing. In a recent social media post, the Aurora Police Department announced major updates to their district boundaries, aimed at improving response times and balancing workloads among officers. According to the Aurora Police Department, these changes are set to go into effect on Valentine's Day, February 14th.
The redistricting comes after a detailed analysis that spanned multiple years, focusing on call demand, emergency response, and time spent on calls. The new layout is designed to match Aurora's growth and to streamline the way officers handle emergencies. Some districts, under the old boundaries, bore a heavier burden, facing significantly higher workloads compared to others. But now, with the updated maps, the Aurora Police Department intends to bring a more consistent response to all neighborhoods.
The revamped layout will run east to west across the city, with East 6th Avenue dividing the North and Central Districts and East Jewell Avenue, sectioning off the Central and South Districts. Despite the boundary changes, the Aurora Police Department assures that the way residents access police services will stay the same. Whether it's calling 911, the non-emergency number at 303.627.3100, or requesting assistance, the process remains unchanged.
However, the redistricting could involve different Police Area Representative (PAR) officers or district leadership for some citizens, based on where the new lines are drawn. "Residents are encouraged to review the new district maps and familiarize themselves with any changes to district boundaries," the Aurora Police Department shared on Facebook.
